Medio is announcing that we are joining the Twitter exodus and will no longer be doing business or running ads on the Twitter platform.
The decision is solely influenced by the overwhelming and apparent unfettered circulation of hate speech and racism on the Twitter platform. While we are deeply saddened to depart from the Twitter community we have fostered, our values of inclusivity, diversity, and iron-strong democratic governance supersede any of our top business priorities.
As a black-owned company, we have a compounding and heightened obligation to protect black communities and communities of color - on the Medio platform and any other platform where our communities gather. Under new leadership, Twitter has failed to protect marginalized communities on the platform and has allowed rampant hate speech against marginalized groups, particularly black users - daily occurrence of slurs against black users more than doubled after the leadership transition at Twitter. As the toxic digital environment continues to degrade, we decided to cease our presence on the platform effective immediately.
The #twitterexodus is proof that a highly competitive free market offers consumers the opportunity to reject such values that are toxic to our society.
As we leave Twitter, we have found a new home on Instagram’s Threads!
